The Last Mile: Saving Mothers in Lake Eyasi
Help Ruth the Midwife turn a building into a life-saving Maternity Home
for the Karatu District.

  1. The Heart of the Mission In the remote village of Qandend, near the
shores of Lake Eyasi, distance is often a death sentence. For an
expectant mother in this rugged part of Tanzania, the nearest hospital
is 50 kilometers away. This is a journey over difficult, unpaved terrain
    that can take hours.
J and D Maternity Home was born out of a legacy of care started by
researchers Jeannette Handby and David Bygott. Today, Ruth, a dedicated
midwife, is carrying that torch. The walls are up and the foundation is solid,
but we are missing the pulse of the clinic. We need the equipment and
transport required to legally open our doors and save lives.
  2. A Personal Sacrifice Ruth is not just a director; she is a woman who
has put her heart and her own life savings into this project. She has
personally funded the construction to this point, believing so deeply in
this community that she has exhausted her own financial resources to
    see the walls rise.
Furthermore, Ruth currently stands as a financial surety for women in the
village. When a mother faces a life-threatening complication and needs an
emergency C-section at a distant hospital, Ruth personally guarantees the
payment to ensure the mother is not turned away. She bears this financial
burden because she refuses to let a mother die due to poverty. By helping us
complete this home, you are supporting a leader who has already given
    everything she has.
  3. The Urgent Reality We are currently at the finish line, but we cannot
cross it without you. To receive our official government license and
registration, we must meet strict medical standards. Currently, we are
    blocked by three critical needs.
First, we need a Medical Laboratory. This costs 12,000 USD. It is essential
for blood work, prenatal screening, and infection diagnostics. Without this,
    we cannot legally be licensed.
Second, we need a Kitchen and Nutrition Wing. This costs 4,000 USD. This
is required to provide hot, nutritious meals for recovering mothers and
    newborns.
Third, we need an Emergency 4×4 Ambulance. This costs 48,000 USD. This
is our biggest hurdle. The terrain in Lake Eyasi is brutal. A rugged vehicle is
a mobile life-support unit that bridges the 50 kilometer gap to the main
    district.
  4. Special Invitation for Car Dealerships and Partners We recognize that
48,000 USD for an ambulance is a significant sum. We are specifically
inviting car dealerships and automotive corporations to join us as lead
    partners.
For a dealership, this is an opportunity to provide a vehicle that will
become a symbol of hope across the Karatu District. We are eager to discuss
partnership benefits, including prominent branding and logo placement on
the vehicle. This ambulance will be the only reliable emergency transport
for the Qandend village and surrounding institutions, providing high
visibility for a partner who cares about corporate social responsibility.
  5. Flexible Financing and Installment Partnerships We are also opening a
unique partnership opportunity for individuals or businesses with
strong creditworthiness and good standing at financial institutions. If
you are in a position to facilitate an installment-based purchase or a
lease-to-own agreement, we welcome your involvement.
In this structured arrangement, the partner would provide the initial
financing or credit guarantee required to secure the vehicle immediately.
The Maternity Centre will then commit to paying the installments. This
allows us to get the ambulance on the road and saving lives today while
managing the cost over time. We guarantee a long-term partnership and
formal recognition for any individual or entity that can help us bridge this
financial gap through their credit standing.
  6. Why Trust Us We are not starting from scratch. The building is already
standing. We have the support of the local community, secondary
schools, and the legacy of the researchers who loved this land.
Ruth has led this project with her own hands and her own funds. Now, she
needs the global community to help her finish the work. Every dollar brings
us closer to a licensed laboratory and a safe delivery for a mother in need.
